About Broadway

At Broadway Children's School of Oakland, we believe that every child is unique and special, and we nurture and encourage that sense of individuality so that each child will develop within his or her own framework. In a caring and playful environment, we help each student build competency in the social, emotional, intellectual, and creative selves that make the whole child. We combine child-centered learning with parent enrichment, cultivating a committed community that offers families a bedrock of support, knowledge-sharing and friendship. It is a wonderful place to learn and grow together!

Our Programs

Preschool Programs

Broadway’s play-based preschool programs provide a creative learning environment for children beginning around the age of 3 years, continuing until they are ready for kindergarten around age 5.

PACT (Toddlers & Parents)

“"PACT" for parents and toddlers (around age 2) meets on Tu/Th from 9:30 to 11:30. Adults rotate to work alongside teachers and take time away, and they join a Thursday morning parent support and education meeting.

Broadway Children's School of Oakland admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Meet Our Staff

We offer competitive pay and benefits, including professional development, to recruit and retain amazing teachers. Broadway teachers are educated, experienced, creative, and collaborative.
Diana-Davis

Diana Davis/Director

Diana has been at Broadway Children’s School since 2008. For the first eight years at BCSO she was a teacher in both Rainbow and Sunshine programs, then took on the additional role of site supervisor in 2016.
Jennifer-McManus

Jennifer McManus/Assistant Director

When her daughter moved on to kindergarten from the Rainbow Room, Jennifer wasn’t ready to leave Broadway--so she didn’t! She joined Broadway’s Extended Care staff in Fall 2005 and the Rainbow Room teaching team the following year.
Cirila-Call

Cirila Call/Teacher

Cirila earned an education degree from Hunter College, City University of New York. It wasn’t until her own children attended at play-based co-op preschool that she realized how much she enjoys working with preschool aged children.

Lisa Klyce/Teacher

Lisa Klyce first walked through the doors of Broadway Children’s School in 2002 as a parent in the PACT program and never left. Her children are members of the classes of ’05 and ’08.

Mari Dávalos/Teacher

Mari is from Quito, Ecuador, and has been involved in early childhood education since her three children (now 14, 18, and 19!) started preschool.

Natalie Deremiah/Teacher

Natalie received a B.S. in Child Development with a minor in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University. The “learn by doing” motto on campus allowed her to apply what she was learning in a real life setting.

Jessie Kael/Teacher

Like Jennifer and Lisa, Jessie came to Broadway as a parent and fell in love with Broadway. She served in a variety of volunteer capacities including Board Chair as each of her three children attended school here, then accepted the Business Manager position in July of 2020.
